- BrainPaint® is a specially designed neurofeedback that improves how you function by improving how your brain operates. This is called deep brain learning.
- Studies have shown that BrainPaint® has a significant effect on attention (ADD and ADHD), anxiety, depression, sleep, thought disorders, fears, phobia, and chronic pain, such as fibromyalgia. It also improves peak performance and is the ONLY neurofeedback demonstrated in studies to have a dramatic effect on Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and addiction.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics endorses neurofeedback for ADHD as a Level 1 “Best Support” intervention, and considers it as effective as medication.
- BrainPaint® patients usually notice results within 5 – 8 sessions. For long-term lasting results 20 – 30 sessions are recommended.
- BrainPain®t is used by Harvard Medical School, Wounded Warriors, and several professional and Olympic teams and athletes. It is also endorsed by UCLA.
BrainPaint® is a Personal Brain Trainer
Neurofeedback is a brain mapping science and system that teaches your brain to improve its functioning, much like a personal trainer. The result of personal training is a strong body, and similarly, the result of brain training with neurofeedback tends to be a strong brain.
BrainPaint® is personalized medicine – it is a specially designed neurofeedback that is customized for each individual. It is a unique neurofeedback system, whereby you paint on a computer screen with your brain to strengthen certain areas and balance certain brainwaves.
Neurofeedback Enables the Brain to Make Permanent Changes
Neurofeedback addresses the main causes of negative symptoms. Medications can be effective, however, medications can have side effects and tend to be a temporary fix. Neurofeedback enables the brain to make permanent changes, causing symptoms to disappear or to significantly improve.
BrainPaint® sessions are usually covered by insurance. Your doctor’s office will check for you.
Step 1. See if you are qualified for BrainPaint by filling out a Pre-Evaluation Questionnaire provided by your provider.
Step 2. Once you have been verified by your insurance, fill out our BrainPaint Release Form. This grants Dr. Matt Silver to call you about the BrainPaint program. Dr. Silver is a Family Practice physician with a certification in the BrainPaint system. He will ask 90 questions, which will develop an individual protocol for you (personalized medicine). During this time, Dr. Silver will also help you further understand the technology of BrainPaint, and go over any questions you may have.
Step 3. You will come into your provider’s office for the sessions. You will sit in a quiet room, in a comfortable chair, in front of a computer monitor. Sensors are placed on your ears and scalp to read the electrical activity of your brain.
Step 4. You watch images and graphs, developed by your brain activity, for 25 – 30 minutes.
Step 5. Your brain is changed through learning about itself.
Step 6. The program is paired with Artificial Intelligence so each new session has learned from the past session.
Watching the images changes your brain. Your brain is not your mind. It is an organ that processes substantially more information than your mind could handle. For example, it is your brain that regulates an increase in heart rate during physical activity. Your mind does not know how to do that. Even though your mind wants to understand and participate in your neurofeedback session, it is your brain that is being trained.
BrainPaint® is Built on Evidence-Based Protocols
The protocol for BrainPaint® neurofeedback is alpha-theta based, which is the most effective evidence-based treatment protocol for addictions and trauma. It also yielded the largest effects on all domains of psychological functioning with the most rigorous tests as shown in landmark studies (Peniston 1991 and UCLA 2005).
Automated EEG Biofeedback Proven Effective in Addiction Treatment
Los Angeles, CA — An automated EEG biofeedback system works just as well as a clinician-run system in helping reduce attention deficits in those with substance use disorders, according to an independent joint study from researchers at UCLA and UNC Wilmington.
The finding means that addiction treatment centers now have an easier and more affordable way to help clients with issues such as ADHD learn to self-regulate their attention and, thus, control the impulsivity and distractibility that can hamper recovery. Moderate to large effect sizes in focus were demonstrated in 15 sessions over 1.5 weeks.
“The results support the hypothesis that BrainPaint®’s automated EEG biofeedback, which our technicians learned to operate in a week, was as effective as a clinician-controlled system in this study,” said lead author Dr. Julian Keith, Professor of Psychology at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. “Both systems were effective at improving symptoms of ADD/ADHD, but the automated neurofeedback is more practical and cost-effective in a substance use disorders residential treatment setting.”
EEG biofeedback, also known as neurofeedback, trains people how to self-generate “effortless attention” – a relaxed, stable, alert focus that enhances control over emotions and actions. For those whose substance use comes with an attention issue – estimated to be roughly one in four of those with addictions – this can translate to an improved ability to make healthy decisions and greater willingness to remain in treatment. It also provides an alternative to the drugs commonly used to treat ADD and ADHD, many of which have the potential to spark addiction or relapse.
The study involved 95 participants randomly assigned to one of three groups who either received 15 sessions of BrainPaint® automated EEG biofeedback, 15 sessions of Neurocybernetics® with a seasoned clinician (18 years’ experience), or 15 additional therapy sessions without biofeedback. In addition to both neurofeedback groups significantly improving results on the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA®), an outcome measure used to diagnose ADD/ADHD, the BrainPaint® group stayed 65 days or 71% longer in treatment than the control group, and the Neurocybernetics® group stayed 57 days or 62% longer. Research demonstrates that longer stays in treatment translate to a better chance of long-term sobriety.
Leading addiction treatment centers are incorporating neurofeedback as an important component of recovery. “Receiving neurofeedback can increase a client’s attention dramatically, making them more likely to complete treatment and remain abstinent,” explained Dr. David Sack, CEO of Elements Behavioral Health, which includes Promises Treatment Centers. Elements Behavioral Health has integrated neurofeedback at 11 of its treatment centers around the US.
Are You Really Painting With Your Brain?
Everyone is unique and so is your brain. Every one of your thoughts and feelings creates a unique signal that manipulates the images on the screen. As your brain creates new images, it is given new information on how it operates, which in turn teaches the brain how to function more efficiently.
Why Do You Need a Personal Brain Trainer?
The brain is command central and regulates your body functions, including your heart, hormones, sleep, nervous system, attention, emotions, behavior, and mood. Your brain may not be functioning well due to many factors, such as chronic stress, emotional or physical trauma, exposure to toxic substances, negative thoughts, and genetic factors.
Neurofeedback trains the electrical activity and timing in your brain to strengthen your brain, making it permanently more efficient and productive. It trains the brain to become more attentive, focused, alert, and calm, with improved sleep, and increased resilience. Clients notice the difference after training their brain. They report that they function better in all aspects of life.
Is it Safe to Use at Any Age?
Young children to adults 90 years of age can benefit from BrainPaint®.
